During term three each year Wellington secondary schools can receive coaching support for their match racing teams. The programme provides access to: a fleet of four match racing keelboats a coach boat coaching equipment coaches Each team is provided with up to six, 2 hour coaching sessions facilitated by a Wellington Ocean Sports Centre Match Racing Coach. Coaching takes place after school on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Schools can involve their own coaching or support people in the programme but aren’t disadvantaged if they do not have these people involved. During the winter months Wellington youth sailors are able to participate in a youth match racing programme. The purpose of this programme is to introduce youth sailors from Wellington clubs to the match racing discipline and provide them with a platform for possible selection into the Wellington under 21 match racing squad. The programme runs over a sixteen week period beginning in May, with a break for the mid year school holidays. The programme caters for up to eight teams.
